“Go home to your friends and tell them the great things the Lord has done for you.” (Mark 5:19)
Those words of Scripture burst alive in my heart almost 40 years ago as I knelt praying in my prison cell, asking the Lord if there was any way He could work things out for me to be released before finishing my entire sentence. I said “amen” and opened the Bible randomly to read this verse – “Go home to your friends and tell them the great things the Lord has done for you.”
I was stunned — and very excited. Somehow I knew that the Lord had heard my prayer and answered. I knew that I was going to get out of prison! And I knew what I was supposed to do once I got out — “go home to my friends and tell them.”
I also knew that there was nothing I could do to make this actually occur. If indeed it was the Lord speaking to me as I supposed, then He alone would be the One who would make what He had said happen.
And He did.
Less than two weeks later, on December 22, 1970, I was released from the Texas State Penitentiary. I went home to my friends and began telling them my story. And I have been doing just that for the past four decades. Now, I have the privilege to tell my story to you with the pubication of my new book, Released From the Prison My Father Built.
Beginning tomorrow I will post excerpts from the book to give you a first look at what the Lord has done, and how it can impact your own life as you follow after Jesus on your personal journey into freedom.
Enjoy!

Sounds like an awesome book and message. It reminds me of how we can also be in prison without bars. Many are walking around in self-imposed prisons that they don't realize God has the keys to.
